‘Thiruvonam’ star is auspicious for Lord Narayanan and is celebrated every month at the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Walajapet, Vellore district. But the Onam festival falling on September 16 (Monday), 2013 is considered more auspicious at the peedam as Onam is being celebrated globally by Keralites irrespective of their religion or caste.
Peedam founder, Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, has denoted this Thiruvonam star as a special day for curing ailments by offering prayers to Lord Danvantri, the ruling deity of the peedam, who is none other than Lord Narayanan himself.
It is a twin pleasure visiting the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam as the Swamigal has installed a 7-foot-high stone idol of Lord Danvantri (Aadhi Vaidhyar), and also a unique 3-foot-high stone idol of Lord Danvantri (Pini Theerpavar) and Ganapathi (Vinai Theerpavar) from a single stone and with their backs together. The remarkable idol was carved by the famed Loganathan Sthapathy of Mahabalipuram.
A note from the peedam says that the Danvantri idol which rests back-to-back with the Ganesha idol has Goddess Lakshmi in his heart, symbolising a doctor with a heart of abundance.
The Swamigal has made arrangements for thailabishekam (ritual oil bath), which is very special for Lord Danvantri, followed by alankaram, aradhanai, archanai, homam and mass prayer to invite Mahabali Chakravarthi. The Swamigal will be allowing devotees to directly perform thailabishekam for Lord Vinayaka-Danvantri which will help them “get their ailments cured and gain positive energy”.
The note invites all devotees for this unique celebration of Thiruvonam at the peedam and to receive the boundless blessings of Danvantri Bhagawan.
