It has always been a
thankless job, but, at least now, they are remembered for one precious day in a
year. We are talking about teachers – who get no recognition for all the hard
work they put in to turn out good human beings.
But the founder of Sri
Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr. Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, always remembers them on
Teachers Day – September 5.
On this day this year,
Thursday, a Danvantri homam will be performed at the peedam at Walajapet,
Vellore district, for the welfare of teachers, lecturers, professors and their
families for a disease- and disorder-free life, at 10 a.m.
A note from the peedam
says that teachers mould the lives that they influence because the lessons
learnt from teachers remain with their students throughout their life. In turn,
teachers need encouragement and support from the community to feel that their
work is appreciated.
The homam at the peedam
will start at 10 a.m. and would be followed by special archanai and arathi for
Lord Danvantri. There would also be charity activities and mass prayer,
culminating in annadhanam.
It is a remarkable to note
that Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, in whose honour Teachers Day is celebrated,
studied at the Walajapet High School.
The peedam has extended an
open invitation to devotees to participate in the homam and pray for the
welfare of teachers all over the world.
A good teacher is like a
candle – s/he consumes the self to light the way for others.
