Lord Ganapati is a son of lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. He is also known as Vighnaharta, Vighna Vinashaka and Budhi Dayaga (giver of intelligence). According to Puranas, worshipping lord Ganesha is considered to be sacred before commencing any task which is why he is also known as Aadi Pujya.
