Walajapet: A special Ashta Bairavar homam would be held on October 16, 2014, at Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Walajapet, for the welfare of over 13,000 Nokia employees who face loss of their jobs at the Sriperumbudur plant from November 1.
Over 20,000 workers of the Nokia plant are affected by the decision of cell phone manufacturers, Nokia, to close down their plant at Sriperumbudur. While 7,000 employees had been asked to quit, availing of the voluntary retirement scheme, over 13,000 permanent and contract labour faced loss of livelihood from November 1. In addition, several thousand others working in downstream ancillary parts production would also be affected due to the closure.
Peedam founder Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal had received requests from certain employees and their family members to organise a special homam and prayer for the welfare of the affected Nokia employees.
In view of Thaey Pirai Ashtami on October 16, a special Ashta Bairavar homam and joint prayer would be conducted at 10 a.m., with the aim of praying for an early, satisfactory resolution of the problem, Sri Muralidhara Swamigal said.
He hoped that the Nokia management and the government would satisfactorily solve the problem and enable the livelihood of the affected employees to be protected.
