Guru Nanak Jayanthi will be held at the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Walajapet, on Thursday, November 6, 2014. The Peedam has installed a granite image of the saint and observes all important days connected with him.
A 1.5-foot-high idol of Guru Nanak, fashioned by Loganatha Sthapathi, has been installed at the Peedam.
Peedam founder Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal has established the idol at the Peedam. The Swamigal says his preaching of love for all human beings and equality among them should be practised by one and all. The Vedanta Lifeology Research Centre of the Peedam finds his teachings simple and acceptable. Guru Nanak had given importance to Vedic and Puranic teachings. He spoke about how human beings should look beyond divisions and distinctions. He proved through his life that love for human beings was as important as religion.
Vedanta Lifeology Research Centre spreads his teachings and preaching to the people – samathuvam (equality) and manitha neyam (humaneness) – lack of which led to diseases, said the Swamigal. "We have to create a society that looks beyond caste and creed", stresses the Peedam founder.
Guru Nanak laid importance on bhajan and 'naama japam', which alone would help attain divinity, says the Swamigal.
After the special poojas on his jayanthi, done in the traditional format, a mass prayer would be held for the well-being of the whole world.
