Karthaveeryaajunar and Dattatreyar homam on Dec 6
Walajapet: A special Dattaatreyar homam and Sri Karthaveeryaajunar homam would be performed at Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Walajapet, as part of the Datta Jayanthi celebrations on Saturday, December 6, 2014.
Peedam founder Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal has announced that 'Aayiram Naama Archanai' for the Thousand-Handed One will be performed at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, as part of the Datta Jayanthi celebrations.
Athiri Maharishi and Anusuya Devi brought forth Sri Dattaatreyar. He was called Aatreyan as he was the son of Athiri. As Vishnu gave up his right (thatham) on him, he was called Dattaatreyar. Anusuya Devi alone had the good fortune of being the mother of the Mummoorthies (trinity). Worshipping Sri Dattaatreyar will enable one to derive the benefits of worshipping the Mummoorthies at the same time.
Lord Dattaatreya incorporates the trinity of the Hindu pantheon. Lord Dattaatreya is the remover of mental anxieties. He anchors a person, removing doubt and vacillation. He is also Sri Karthaveeryarjuna‘s guru. When the time came for Lord Dattaatreya to be taken to the original temple, Swamigal decided to go to Pune, where the shrine of Adi Dattaatreya is situated. From Pune he travelled to Shirdi since Shirdi Baba is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Dattaatreya. As part of the karikolam, he took the Dattaatreya idol to Podhigai Malai. The road was in rough terrain and Swamigal had no road maps. As he decided to walk, asking the route along the way, he noticed that a dog walked along with him from Kuttralam to Podhigai Malai, showing Swamigal the way.
